Yet another casting call but this time by LensaFilms

We are looking for a Malaysian aged between 20-35 years old to host a certain tv programme. Like our latest elections, race will not be a factor.

Interested candidates should come in business attire, and for the ladies make-up is compulsory. Don’t overdo it though, unless you want us to put your profile in the ‘Powder Face’ category.

Allow me to recap the criterias:

The other day during Joe's class, we were introduced to the KLPAC's new Director of Residence, Chris Ling. I really love what KLPAC is doing now to really try and bring about younger people into the performing arts and to nurture them to express themselves through the art. He doesn't look as scary as he does in that picture :P and he's a real nice guy.

The prices are also not too terrible. The Actor's Toolkit will be something like what Joe Hasham would teach in his Acting for Beginners Class, which is a 10 week course and costs RM600. It's worth it, if you are keen on learning.

The Academy @ KLPac presents
Theatre For Young People (T4YP)
Three Courses Taught by Chris Ling
KLPac's new Director in-Residence will be conducting three Theatre For Young People (T4YP) courses specially tailored for young people. Trained in Drama and Theatre Arts at Middlesex University, London and with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, Chris Ling is most well-known for his work with Rep16:21, the young people's theatre programme of Rep21 Theatre Company.
These three T4YP courses have been specially put together for young people between the ages of 16 to 25.
The Young Actor's Toolkit
Wednesdays: April 9, 16, 23, 30 @ 7.30pm - 10.30pm
Saturdays: April 12, 26 @ 2pm - 5pm

This intensive, one-month course provides fundamental concepts and techniques of performing for young people. It involves acting exercises, scene studies, monologues, theatre games, reading, text analysis, and processes for creating character. Upon completion of the course, all participants will get first preference to audition to be part of the new T4YP Ensemble for the 2008 season. Please note that attendance is compulsory at all classes and punctuality is mandatory.

Course Fee: RM350 per participant
Registration: RM50

Creative Self Expression
Monday: April 14, 21, 28 & May 5, 12, 19 @ 7.30 to 10.30pm
Wednesday: May 21 & Thurs, 22 @ 7.30pm to 10.30pm

Workshop Performances: Friday, May 23 @ 8.30pm, Saturday, May 24 8.30pm and Sunday, May 25 8.30pm

What leads to that triumph of the human spirit we call creativity? The psychology of creative self-expression will be explored by understanding the processes of inner passions and conflicts on self-expression. Express your innate creativity and artistry through the channels of drama, dance, music, fine art, photography
– just to name a few.

Participants will also get to participate in the first installment of T4YP's yearly workshop performance series - “The 100-words Project”.
Please note that attendance is compulsory for all classes, intensives and workshop performances and punctuality is mandatory.

Course Fee: RM450 per participant
Registration:RM50

Interactive Theatre
Monday: August 4, 11, 18, 25 & Sept 1, 8, 22, 29 @ 7.30 to 10.30pm
Intensives: Friday, Oct 3 @ 7.30 to 10.30pm
Workshop Performances: Saturdays, Oct 4, 11, 18, 25 and Sundays, Oct 5, 12, 19, 26 @ 8.30pm to 9.30pm
Bump-In @ 6.30pm (2 hrs. prior)

It doesn't get any more live than this! Interactive theatre blurs the line between actor and audience by involving everyone in action-based, "theatre of life" events. Explore together with us this powerful, hybrid art form merges the concepts such as: role play, improvised theatre, & interactive simulation which ultimately creates theatre's version of “virtual reality”.

This two-month course culminates in a workshop performance which will literally take Interactive Theatre into people's public and private spaces throughout the month of October. Please note that attendance is compulsory for all classes, intensives and workshop performances and punctuality is mandatory.

Course Fee: RM500 per participant
Registration: RM50

The Platform

I am so excited!! When I first heard about this from Johann I was all ears. But now that finally it is official, i am ecstatic. This is exactly the chance that those like us in performing are waiting for.

KLPAC is holding an Open Mic program. It is set up by Gavin Yap and Joe Hasham, to well known figures in the performing arts scene in KL. The stage is open to anyone that has a good script and willing to give it a shot at performing in front of a crowd. This is a great opportunity to let others see see your ability and talent. Who knows you may get spotted. And it is none of the ridiculous reality bits where people have to vote for you and so on, but it is pure performing. I’m not dissing reality shows, mind you…. I’m excited!!

You can find out more about it here at the KLPAC page.
The main things you have to know?

  1. Application starts as of now 19th Dec and all FINISHED scripts must be sent to theplatform@klpac.com. OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS NOW!
  2. It is purely drama and theatre, physical theatre can be considered though.
  3. All performance pieces must be written by the performer(s). If the piece is written by someone not involved in the performance, then it must not have been published or publicly performed prior to the day of performance.
  4. No more than 3 performers per piece
  5. All pieces must be no more than 15 minutes and no less than 5 minutes in length.
  6. No mics - crap….. but good too work on throwing your voice on stage.

The dates are as such. Taking place at 8.30pm every first Monday of the month throughout 2008:

7 January, 4 February, 3 March, 7 April, 5 May, 2 June, 7 July, 4 August, 1 September, 6 October, 3 November & 1 December

Now I just need a script. Anyone with any ideas?

This Is Where It Begins

I have been having so much thoughts on creating a blog just for performing arts, mostly base in Kuala Lumpur.

I am a person that is also trying to get into the performing arts, and I hope that I can in the coming years. That said at the same time I hope others who dream for something like this... or at least have a passion to be in it, won't give up on this dream and they will continue forward to doing something they love. I honestly believe that it can grow within us, the arts, but it's really up to us how badly we want it.

So finally I'm getting down to it.

This shall be a site that primarily focuses on all sorts of art form, ranging from singing, acting, dance, theater, tv, film,....whatever that is related. My thoughts and struggles in this industry and from time to time, when I see an audition call from people around, i'll put it up.

Who knows, maybe someday other people can collaborate here and discuss imaginative, creative ideas. Have fun reading "The Stage Calls"
